Who you are dealing with

Emberfig is a two-person app studio based in Nigeria, building for a global audience. We publish Android apps on Google Play and write about how we build them here. You can reach us at hello@emberfig.com or through the contact page. There is no company switchboard and no support desk. The two of us read everything.

The apps are free, and stay free

Every app we publish is free to download and free to use. There is no paid tier held back behind the free one, no trial that expires, and no feature waiting behind a subscription. We are paid by the advertising inside the apps, which is described in the privacy policy.

You do not need an account, so there is nothing for you to create, nothing to log into and nothing for us to close. You can stop using anything we make at any time by deleting it, and nothing of yours stays behind on our side, because there was nothing there to begin with.

What you may do

Use our apps on as many of your own devices as you like, for anything you want, including work you are paid for. Quote this site, link to it, and use short extracts with attribution. We would rather be read than fenced off.

What we ask you not to do is narrow: do not redistribute our apps through other stores or as modified builds, do not strip the advertising, and do not republish our writing wholesale as your own. The first two take our income, the third takes the reason anyone would trust either of us.

What we do not promise

The apps and this site are provided as they are. We test on the devices we own, which is not every device, and we cannot promise that everything works everywhere, that a release is free of defects, or that a service stays available. If something we ship costs you work or data, we are sorry, and we will fix it, but we cannot accept liability for it. That is the ordinary trade for software given away with no account and no contract, and it is the same trade you already make with everything else on your phone. We would rather state it plainly here than in capital letters at the bottom of a page.

What we do promise is narrower and we can keep it: when something breaks and we know about it, you hear it from us, plainly, with what happens next.

Things you send us

This is the part worth reading. If you use the report form to tell us what is broken about an app, we may quote what you wrote, in full or in part, in a teardown or a rebuild note on this site. That is the entire point of the form: complaints become evidence, and evidence becomes apps.

We will never publish your email address, and we will never say who you are. If you would rather your words were not quoted at all, say so in the report and we will keep it out. If we have already published something you sent and you change your mind, write to us and we will remove it.

Advertising

Our apps carry advertising from Google AdMob. This site carries none today. If that changes it will be Google AdSense, it will be labelled, and the privacy policy will be updated before the first ad appears rather than after. We do not accept payment to write about an app, and nothing on this site is sponsored.

Changes

We will change this page when the business changes, and the date at the top moves when we do. We will not quietly rewrite it. If something changes that actually affects you, such as advertising arriving on this site, it gets said out loud in a post rather than buried in a policy revision.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where we are based. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in, and where the two disagree, your local law wins.

We wrote this ourselves, in the same plain language as everything else here, rather than pasting in a template we had not read. It is not legal advice and we are not lawyers. If you need certainty for something that matters, take proper advice rather than relying on a page written by two developers.
